Mai Hime

Not the usual action anime...... Romance is present as well. This show contain some yuuri therefore may not suit those anti-yuuri.

Every 300 years there is a festival to select a wife for the dark lord. The two of them would then create a new world. The 12 nominees are the ones called HiME which stands for Highly-advanced Materializing Equipment. Each hime has an element, which is like their weapon, and can summon a child. The child here refers to a creature summoned for battle by a HiME. The child is born from the love between HiMe and the ones they love. The stronger the bond, the stronger, and maybe even bigger in size, the child is. If the child is destroyed, so is their love ones. They turn into dust.

In the early part of the show, hime have to defend mankind from orphans, which are like failed child. In the later part, they end up fighting each other and destroying each other child. The last one who remain will be the dark lord's wife.

Mai-Hime focuses on the 3 himes- Tokiha Mai (center), Kuga Natsuki (left), Minagi Mikoto (right). Each of them have a not so pleasant past, especially Natsuki who btw is my fav character in this anime. Opening ( shining days by kuribayashi minami) and ending ( kimi ga sora datta) songs suit the anime quite well.ave

On the whole, I rank this anime a "S". A definite must watch sunrise production. N... I have this anime DVD!
